About Gina Teichert

Western artist Gina Teichert with her rattlesnake painting

Gina Teichert paints the myth of the American West with a nod to graphic novels, spaghetti westerns, and Georgia O’Keeffe. Her visual vocabulary pulls from experiences in today’s West – both her upbringing on a rural cattle ranch and her time in glittering cities like Las Vegas and San Francisco.

For the genre bending artist, influences are wide ranging. From the big, high desert expanses of her childhood, to her time modeling for brands like Stetson, Levi’s, and Harley Davidson, Teichert’s own journey feels like a sun drenched, cinematic trip.

As the great granddaughter of painter Minerva Teichert, Gina is tasked with taking the torch and taking it somewhere new.

Her recent work tips a hat to 20th century illustrators, Pop, and Modernism while incorporating unexpected elements like leather fringe, cyanotype, and areas of swirled and free flowing paint.

Teichert has exhibited at San Francisco’s de Young Museum, Cheyenne Frontier Days Old West Museum, the West Coast Biennial, Made in California, Coors Young Guns, and the Springville Museum Spring Salon.

In 2018, Alaska Airlines acquired her piece Outerlands and it greeted visitors to San Francisco International Airport for several years. It is currently on view at Union Square in San Francisco.

In addition to her visual art practice, Teichert is a freelance writer covering art and culture, an exhibition curator, a public speaker, and an active participant in rural art and education advocacy.

She has served as a panelist for the California Arts Commission, is on the Pope Valley Scholarship board of directors, and volunteers as an art instructor at her local community center. Previously, she worked in the education department at San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and currently is in the nominee pool for the Cowgirl Hall of Fame in Fort Worth, Texas.
